Jordan: 5/28/11 Letter numero uno

We it's been pretty crazy here the last couple of days.  My companion was about one inch away from calling the branch pres. and telling him that he was going home. Luckily on the way to the front desk, we ran into his cousin and his cousin convinced him to stay, but he might be going home anyway.  his anxiety is so bad that he can't eat anything at all. his anxiety is so bad that it makes my anxiety look like nothing at all.   He hasn't eaten for a day and a half now, so he doesn't have any energy and all he wants to do is sleep.  He met with the branch pres today and he's going to meet with someone else and call his family and decide if he's staying or going. I'm trying to convince him to stay, but if he really can't eat then he can't stay.  if you all could remember him in your prayers that would be great.  His name is elder wistison.  (sorry about not capitalizing anything but the shift key sticks so...)

We taught our first lesson on friday morning and we had to do it in spanish.  it was a train wreck. we couldn't understand ANYTHING, and we could only say a couple of words.  everyone talks about verb conjugation, but no one will tell us how to conjugate them.  it's pretty hard.  but oh well, there are worse things.  at least i can eat the food.  Me and my companion studied a lot of spanish today while everyone was at gym, because my comp was meeting with the branch pres during gym.  so i didn't get to exercise but that was okay.  we got a lot of good studying done.  Hopefully our lesson tonight will go a lot better and we'll be able to speak some spanish.

my district is really awesome. there is a lot of great guys.  everyone is from colorado, utah, idaho, or arizona, except one elder from America Samoa.  he's awesome.  one of the funniest people i've ever met.

The hardest thing about the MTC so far is keeping on task.  i try to study when i'm supposed to but most of the guys in my district seem to think study time consists of go sleep on the couches in the lobby and play spanish words trivia on the white board, even though we're supposed to be studing the gospel.  i've been doing pretty well at staying on task, but sometimes it's really hard.

My teachers are really good. their names are Hermano McPherson and Hermana Edwards. that means brother and sister, by the way.  They are super dedicated to the gospel and they really know their stuff.  They're great teachers, but sometimes i want to hit Hermano McPherson when he's pretending to be an investigatior and won't speak any english at all.  spanish is super frustrating, but it's really good. i'm learning so much and i've only been here 2.5 days.
The chruch is true, don't ever forget that.  i know that joseph smith restored the gospel and that he was a prophet of god.  i know that he translated the Book of Mormon.  i know the book of Mormon is a true book.  i know that thomas s. monson is a prophet today, called from god.  I know Jesucristo (i think that spanish word is pretty self explanitory) atones for our sins and he loves us and watches over us.
Love, Elder Schouten.
