Hola!
Well, this week was a good one. We had a baptism on saturday. Sergio, the invest with all the drug problems, got baptized this saturday, and confirmed on sunday. it was an awesome experience. It´s amazing what the power of the Lord can do. He is a 100% different person today than he was 3 weeks ago when we met him. He´s given up drugs and alcohol, and is completely different. He bore his testimony in sacrament meeting yesterday, and it was so powerful. He basically said that he was so thankful for meeting us, and being able to become a better person because of the Book of Mormon. He said that he has no doubt that the book of mormon is true and that he loves reading it and will keep reading it everyday. It was such an awesome baptism. He was so prepared by the Lord.
We also had a miracle happen with the baptism. The baptisimal font in my church is terrible. And on friday, we went and looked at it, and it was full of water but the water was full of bugs, and cochroaches. It was pretty sick. To drain the font, there´s a machine that you have to remove a bolt from, and then you can drain the water. The wrench to remove the bolt is in the Bishop´s Office, so it doesn´t get stolen. We talked with the Branch Secretary and he said he´d be at the church at 3 to unlock the Office. At 3:40 he hadn´t shown up and i knew he wasn´t going to come. So i went to this machine and prayed like crazy that the Lord would work a miracle so we could have a baptism. I twisted the bolt as hard as i could with my hands, and after about a minute, it came off. After that, we drained the font, cleaned it up, and then filled it up again. The Lord really is a Lord of miracles. It was such an amazing experience for me. But i also learned that miracles don´t happen until after we show our faith, and do our part. I had to have the faith that the Lord could help us, and then I had to be willing to work to remove the bolt. And because of my faith and works, the Lord blessed me with a miracle. And then everything went well with the baptism.
Cool story from today.... We have to take a bus to a different city to write you all, and when we got on the bus, we went to pay the driver, and he told us, "I don´t charge the missionaries." He´s obviously a member, and he´s awesome and didn´t make us pay for the bus. Just a cool experience of someone that really is doing all he can to be more like Christ.
We have another invest. that we´re teaching now. His name is Wilfrido. He´s a member of a Pentacost church. My comp says he´s never met a nice member of a pentacost church, but this guy is the nicest guy in the world. The only problem is going to church. He owns a store that´s open sundays, because sundays are his most profitable days, and he cant come to church if his store is open. We really didn´t teach "Keep the Sabbeth Day Holy" because we didn´t have time, but he seems pretty stubborn about this, but we´re going to work with him, and hopefully he´ll have the faith to come to church and be baptized.
Mom- I´m glad everything turned out well with your Young Womens thing and everyone dressed modestly. Your story about the conference thing seems like the story of my life. When we really don´t want to do something in the church, i find that that´s when we need to work and put for the effort the most. This whole week, I was pretty sick physically. And everyday, I really didn´t feel up to working. But i went out anyways, and the Lord blessed us with the miracle of this baptism.
Dad- It snowed?! Lucky. I´d give anything for snow. It´s so hot.
Tasha- I forgot that you can´t trick or treat anymore. Weird. You´re old now. Weird. Have fun in school, and with all your friends. I´ll try to send a picture of the scripture cases, but i don´t think the pictures turned out very well.
Shaylee- trick or treating Fun stuff. Have fun, play hard, be nice
Austin- Keep working hard, keep your chin up, and love life. Everything turns out alright in the end. I promise.
John- I haven´t got your letter yet, but keep working hard. The Lord will bless you. He wants nothing more than to bless you. You just have to show him you´re worth his blessings.
Well, the church is still true. It was true 120ish years ago when it was restored, and it´s still true today and forever it will be. i love the Gospel. It really is the greatest gift in the world. Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He loves us so much. He died for us. We´ll live again, together forever. The Book of Mormon is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given to man. READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The priesthood is the real power of God. It contains the sealing power, so we can live together forever. I love you all.
See you soon,
Love, Elder Jordan Schouten
